نفى وزير الخارجية الأمريكي مايك بومبيو يوم الأحد أن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب قال إنه سيستهدف المواقع الثقافية الإيرانية إذا ردت طهران على مقتل القيادي العسكري الإيراني قاسم سليماني في هجوم بطائرة مسيرة أمريكية. وصرح بومبيو لفوكس نيوز : ”الرئيس ترامب لم يذكر أنه سيستهدف موقعا ثقافيا“.
والجدير بالذكر ان ترامب غرد على حسابه يوم السبت محذرا من أن الولايات المتحدة ستستهدف 52 موقعا إيرانيا بما في ذلك بعض المواقع المهمة للثقافة الإيرانية في حال ردت إيران.

....targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture, and those targets, and Iran itself, WILL BE HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD. The USA wants no more threats!
